Hello hello!!!
Thanks to all of those who came out to our second meeting! Things are really starting to come along and I am excited tosee some of the projects we crank out over the semester.
For those of you unfortunate enough to have missed it, Dr. Woodie Kessel gave us a brief overview about Children's Health. Dr. Kessel has been a pediatrician for 30+ years and was an assistant to the Surgeon General for a period of time. After his presentation we broke up into small groups for a few minutes to discuss possible ideas for projects we could work on throughout the semester. Next meeting we will have feasble projects in mind to work on, and members will be able to join a project that they are interested in and help put it together.
Updates on outside activities:
9/23: Pre-Health Fair in Grand Ballroom Lounge - tons of pre-health groups will be speaking starting at 5pm. Check it out!
9/25: STAMP ALL-NIGHTER - we will have a table from 8-11 discussing Health Care Reform without BiaS.
10/10: KEEN Swim - we will need a few volunteers to help us out with KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now); more info coming soon.
Date TBA: Our National Liasion, Mahta, has organized a book drive for Better World Books that has been going on around campus for a couple of weeks. She is going to need help sorting and packing the books to be shipped out.

First Meeting!
Hey Everyone!!!
Thanks to all of those who came out to the first meeting. The board enjoyed talking to all of you and sharing our vision for the semester. We hope that you will join us on our quest to learn about Health Equity and serve the community through the topic of Children's Health. From what we have planned, this promises to be a great semester and there are plenty of ways to get involved if you choose to do so.
Yesterday at our meeting, the AMSA National Health Justice Fellow and third year UCONN medical student Dan Henderson spoke. He gave an inspirational speech about what it means to be a good doctor, tips for becoming a great doctor, and what AMSA has to offer us. The board also introduced themselves and the president of the Pre-Medical Society talked about their group.
UMD has many pre-medical groups that all offer something different. I urge anyone new to campus to give them all a try if you have the time. They contain great people, resources, and activities while all still being their own unique group.
So before I run off to class, I just wanted to mention that our next meeting is on September 22 in the Nanticoke Room of Stamp at 7pm. Even if you didn't make it to the first meeting, feel free to join us!!
Oh - and thanks to CalTor for the delicious tortilla chips!
Have a Great Day!!!
